What qualifies as a "coastal" application?

A "Coastal" environment is defined as installations subject to marine air, salt-laden fog, and indirect atmospheric salt exposure (e.g., balconies, decks, and exterior staircases), usually within 1 mile of a saltwater or brackish coast.
Even so, it is recommended to rinse your railing with fresh water following any indirect exposure to salt spray or contaminants.

Approved "Coastal" environments do NOT include direct salt or chlorinated water contact such as: immersion or spray (docks, piers, or railings extending into or directly above bodies of water), pool splash zones (installations within 10 feet of a saltwater or traditional chlorine swimming pools or hot tubs), or direct exposure (frequent splashing from storms, waves, or pool activities). Do you have handrail mounting hardware in black?: Great question, Mike! At this point, we only offer handrail brackets with the stainless steel finish.
Can this me use to end mount your stainless handrail between two 8x8 oak beams. Using one on each end inline with the handrail (with or without a center support post). Or are these only meant to be side-mounted perpendicularly?: Great question, Mike! The main application for this item is to mount the handrail perpendicular to the bracket head on stairs, but you could definitely use it for handrail between columns. The mounting screw that comes with the bracket should work for your oak columns, as well. I'm not sure about the distance you're spanning without a support post - we recommend supporting the handrail every 7 feet if using non-structural internal splines. Hope that helps!
