great product

"The only issues I had were getting straight holes through stairway wooden posts. I used a drill press but many holes still did not come through in the proper place."

These covers worked well. Figured

"These covers worked well. Figured out the rough alignment to start the install to get them to finish with minimal depth into the wood post..3/4 turn max. Nice clean and professional look. Pay attention to the hole alignment between the two sides of the post. Some took a little help to get the cable thru the second side."

Q&A

Can you put this rail system on a radis?
Hi Larry! Our products are not designed specifically for radius railing, but we have had people install our products on a curved deck before. There might be some additional considerations such as placing posts closer together etc., but it has been done. Please note that we do not offer curved top rail—you will need to find a custom solution for this. If you would like to talk through your options for radius railing, our support team would be happy to work with you! You can reach them by calling (574) 742-2737, emailing info@cablebullet.com, or by requesting an estimate and uploading a layout sketch of your project!
For stairs railings where the cables go horizontal, but in angle to the post, do I need to drill the holes also in angle or perpendicular to the post (wood)? do you have any video explaining how to install the cables in this case?
Hi, DG! We do not currently have a video describing the details of installing Deluxe Post Hole Covers on stair posts beyond the one included with the product images. However, we may be able to give some clarity. The 9/16" pilot hole that the post hole cover is anchored into will always be drilled horizontally, perpendicular to the post face. However, your 3/16" cable pass-through hole will be drilled at an angle to match the slope of your stairs. There is a cutaway image of this setup included in the product images. If you have any further questions, our support team would be happy to help! (574) 742-2737 or info@cablebullet.com
Does the dummy tensioner come w a set screw so that it has a finished look of the standard end bullets ?
Great question, Laura! The replica tensioning hole on our dummy tensioners is not threaded to receive a set screw, so we do not include one with the product. We have had customers who have gone the extra mile and glued a set screw into these holes to perfect the matching look. However, that is not only time-consuming but also runs the risk of gumming up the cables if they would ever need to be re-tensioned. If that is a solution you would be interested in, you can use the extra set screws found in our spare parts bundle!
What is the max dimensions of a newel post that these will pass through? (Have a 5x5" post)
Good question, Cami. There isn’t a limitation for the hardware itself. The Post Hole Covers are installed on either side of the post and a channel is drilled between them to allow the cable to pass through the post. The biggest limitation is the depth that you are able to drill accurately. Our installation kits come with a 12” drill bit for drilling the pass-through holes. These can comfortably and accurately drill through most posts if you drill from either side to meet in the middle. Once you get past 6-8” of depth, accuracy may become an issue. Our hardware and 12” drill bit should work for your 5” x 5” newel post as long as you carefully drill your pass-through holes from both sides. Thanks for asking! If you have any further questions or need more clarification, our project support team would be happy to assist you at (574) 742-2737 or info@cablebullet.com.
Can these be used on an corner post? If not, do you have a pass through solution for corner posts?
Eric, that's a good question. We typically do not recommend doing a pass through for a corner post. We would recommend ending your cable run with a tensioner and starting a new run on the other side. However, If your corner is a small angle (up to around 45 degrees), you could treat it as a pass through post as it will not bend the cable too much.
